Amphibian Report Card Privacy Policy

Last Updated October 24, 2018

This notice describes the Amphibian Report Card website (“ARC site”) Privacy Policy. By visiting amphibianreportcard.org, you are accepting the practices and policies described below.

Accessing and storing personal information about visitors, expert contributors, donors and other users:
The ARC site and/or its operator/manager, the Foundation for the Conservation of Salamanders (“FCSal”), collect the following information from users.

Information that you provide: The ARC site receives and stores any information that you enter on the ARC site or directly provide to the ARC site’s managers in any other manner. This includes all information requested from users who submit report cards or otherwise contribute information, as well as information entered by users who provide contact information in order to receive updates from the site.

Automatically collected information: The ARC site uses cookies, which are unique identifiers that the ARC site transfers to your device to enable the ARC site’s systems to recognize your device and to provide certain personalized features and/or store information that you have entered. The ARC site and FCSal use information gathered in this manner only for internal purposes, such as website use analytics (to understand which features are most useful to ARC site visitors, for instance). If you would like to block the collection of such information, most browsers have settings that can be applied to prevent the browser from accepting new cookies or provide notice when websites use cookies.

Mobile information: When you use the Amphibian Report Card mobile site, the ARC site and its managers may receive information about your location, which may be used to provide location-specific information about species and conservation projects in your region. If you would like to avoid sharing such information, many mobile devices allow you to limit or turn off location services.

Email communications: To help gauge the usefulness of certain email communications, the ARC site and its managers may receive a confirmation when you open e-mail from the ARC site. The ARC site will only email you if you join the ARC site’s update list, register to share your expertise, receive comments or inquiries related to your entry or entries, provide feedback, or submit or request information. The ARC site will not use your contact information for advertising or other commercial purposes.

If you do not wish to receive email communications from the ARC site, you can unsubscribe here. Please note that if you opt out of receiving updates to the Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, or other legal notices, those notices will still govern your use of the ARC site.

Sharing users’ information with third parties: The ARC site and/or its managers share users’ information with third parties under the limited circumstances described below.

Affiliated Institutions and organizations: The ARC site is operated by FCSal. The ARC site’s purpose is, in part, to foster collaboration and information sharing among amphibian experts and advocates, but your information will not be shared with third parties using the site unless you submit an inquiry, data or commentary. In such cases, information is shared for the purpose of facilitating the exchange of knowledge and ideas, and advancing the ARC site’s conservation goals. Personal information will not be shared for any commercial use.

Operations transfers: As the ARC site grows and evolves, new partnerships might be established to aid in managing the site. In such situations, personal information will remain subject to the terms of this Privacy Policy unless a user consents otherwise.

Protection of the ARC site and users: The ARC site’s managers release account and other personal information when required by law, or when necessary to protect the ARC site, its users and/or its operators.

Consent: Your information may be shared with third parties with your consent.

Security: The ARC site utilizes software that encrypts users’ information during transmission.

Payment: The ARC site uses PayPal to process donations and any other credit card transactions. PayPal maintains its own privacy and security policy. Credit card transactions through the ARC site are considered to be safe and secure; however, because these payments are being processed by a third party, the ARC site and its managers cannot guarantee safe or private processing. For more information about PayPal’s security and privacy policies, please visit www.paypal.com.

Policy updates and disputes: If you choose to visit amphibianreportcard.org, your visit and any dispute over privacy is subject to this Privacy Policy and Terms of Use, and to application of the law of the State of Virginia. The ARC site and its managers reserve the right to make changes to the ARC site, policies, and Terms of Use at any time. If any of these conditions is deemed invalid, void, or for any reason unenforceable, that condition will be deemed severable and will not affect the validity and enforceability of remaining conditions.
